Assassin’s Creed: first trailer and poster

“Welcome to the Spanish Inquisition.”

Well, nobody expected that…

Yes, here it is, the first Assassin’s Creed trailer. On the downside, it’s a film based on a video game – and we all know how great those have been, right kids? On the plus side, it’s got Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in it, teams them again with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel, and means we get to reference Monty Python sketches.

There aren’t too many explanations in the trailer, just a hint at some sub-Matrix-esque sci-fi notions with Fassbender’s “executed” modern day prisoner launched into the world of his ancestor, Aguilar and his adventures in 15th Century Spain where, presumably, his chief weapon was surprise. Fear and surprise…

Still, expect a few more revelations in future trailers between now and the release in December, plus a lot more jumping off buildings. It also means we’ve got six months or more to perfect the hilarious “parkour? Yes, m’lady?” gag we’ve got in development.
