Ozzy Osbourne is perhaps best known for his rock and roll lifestyle. A member of Black Sabbath since 1968, the legendary musician is hailed as one of the forefathers of heavy metal music, and has long been willing to open his private life up to public scrutiny.
Starring in The Osbournes alongside wife Sharon and children Kelly and Jack from 2002 to 2005, the singer’s reality TV debut became the most-watched MTV show of all time. Giving an insight into the eccentric lives of Osbourne and his family, it quickly proved that the singer’s life provided plenty of fodder for the cameras.
As a result, audiences have long called for a movie to be made about Osbourne, and it seems their wish may soon be granted. With a script making the rounds in Hollywood, as well as a biopic by wife Sharon in the works, viewers are likely to be given an intimate glimpse into the life and times of one of metal’s most famous singers.
The Hollywood treatment
Hollywood has produced many movies based on the lives of famous singers, from the 2005 film Walk the Line through to the 2018 megahit Bohemian Rhapsody. Proving hugely popular among audiences, this genre is one that producers are always looking to expand into, and it seems that Osbourne may be the latest musician to receive the silver-screen treatment.
According to wife Sharon, the wheels are already in motion, with a script focusing on the relationship between her and her famous husband currently doing the rounds in Hollywood. However, the music mogul and former X Factor judge’s response to the work in progress have been scathing, with Mrs. Osbourne stating: “It didn’t make sense. It didn’t have heart. It just wasn’t me.”
Despite this, heavy metal’s first lady did have some exciting news to share: that she has a biopic of her own in the works.
The early days of Ozzy Osbourne
Among music circles, the lead singer of Black Sabbath is a long-standing legend. The inspiration for an array of heavy metal songs inspired by his style, as well as content as diverse as T-shirts, an Ozzy Osbourne video slot from Kitty Bingo online, that features classic Ozzy images and nostalgic rock motifs, and even pint glasses, it’s fair to say that he provides some highly charismatic source material for creators.
But it’s not his famously wild antics that wife Sharon wants her biopic to focus on. Stating that the movie would revolve around her early days with Ozzy, she explained: “I don’t want to do another rock and roll and money movie about a musician… It’s everything before we get married.”
Instead, Mrs. Osbourne would like her story to focus largely on her childhood, which was defined by her overbearing father Don Arden, a music industry icon in his own right and a man she would be estranged from for over two decades.
Ending at their marriage, she revealed that she has already approached Danny Boyle to direct the film and has an actress in mind to play herself, but is still looking for a collaborator for the script.
Could it be that 2020 is the year when we finally get an insight into the early days of heavy metal’s most famous power couple?
