Games That Took Inspiration From Movies and TV

It’s very common these days to see popular and successful movies and television programmes make their way into a game of some sort. Fans of the said films and TV shows are desperate to see more of their favourite characters, or to be able to play out specific storylines for themselves; and the perfect solution is to create a video game.

It’s a concept that has been around many years now, with a lot of movie and TV based video games being well received by the public.

An all-time classic movie that also developed legendary status in the gaming world was GoldenEye for the N64 and PS3. This shoot ‘em up title was what all James Bond fans had been waiting for as it allowed them to play as their favourite secret agent in true 007 style. The game went down as one of the greatest games ever. It was proof that movie and TV-based games could be just as successful as their silver screen relatives.

You could even take things back a couple of years as Virgin Interactive produced the Disney’s Aladdin game and this was one of the best platformers around at the time. Disney films were always box office hits and the game definitely lived up to expectations. The more popular the films seemed to be, the better the games produced off the back of them were.

It wasn’t just video games where success was enjoyed either. Slot games were often created which were adaptations of the most watched films and TV shows. Two great examples of this are Jurassic Park and Game of Thrones.

Jurassic Park, originally released in 1993, has seen four movies in total, with one more set for release next year. This saw countless games produced and on the back of that success there has also been slot games developed too.

Game of Thrones is the most talked about tv show around, nothing compares to the hype that surrounds the fantasy serial drama and it’s no surprise that it has inspired two video game releases so far. The second was actually a game that was broken down into six parts, which was extremely well received. The Game of Thrones slot game by Microgaming also took inspiration from the hit HBO show and was well received by online casino players.

The recipe for success seems to require the movie or TV show to be a big hit before it is then adapted for the smaller screen. If the storyline is engaging and gripping or there are exciting and interesting characters, it will go a long way in making the video game and slot game versions much more attractive to players. Who wouldn’t want to immerse themselves in the fictional world of their favourite film or play through a game as one of their favourite characters? Games based on movies and tv shows will always be popular with fans of the aforementioned and as long as developers get things right, they will go on to be a roaring success.
