Reality can get boring, which is where movies come in. The movie industry provides us with short, yet delightful snippets of worlds that are much superior to our own. Whilst there are movies that we truly would not like to come true (*cough*, Eight Legged Freaks), there’s a whole host of movies out there that we would trade our own lives for in a heartbeat.
Arguably, one of the best heist movies ever made, Ocean’s 11 makes theft look extravagant, appealing, and cool. The ensemble cast is alike to criminal versions of The Avengers, and who wouldn’t want to be part of that team? Fortunately, you needn’t dream that you’re a crook in the scorching heat of Nevada, because you can get involved with sports betting in the state of Rhode Island, instead. Perhaps we should leave the elaborate casino heists to the professionals, and live in their world merely as onlookers…
Ready Player One
With the rapid advancement of VR, living in a world alike to this one doesn’t seem so impossible. Ready Player One is every gamers dream; it’s not too dangerous, it’s visually astonishing, and you can be whoever you want to be. In real life, however, I suspect a lot more people would stay far away from Planet Doom.
Back To The Future Trilogy
This one is more about the gadgets, rather than the actual world, but still relevant nonetheless. Time travel is far from becoming plausible, and so this 80s classic had to make this list. In the sequel, McFly travels to 2015 where everyone’s using hoverboards, holograms, and run everything with clean energy; you can’t help but feel a little bit disappointed by our current world… Luckily for us, the Nike self-lacing trainers do in fact exist, but don’t get your hopes up, they’re ridiculously expensive!
Anything that’s directed by Christopher Nolan and scored by Hans Zimmer will undoubtedly feature a world that viewers will want to dive into (aside from Dunkirk, perhaps). The cinematography, and mind-bending dream landscapes is more than enough reason to want to live here forever, even if your subconscious might be at risk of being invaded…
There truly isn’t an 80s adventure movie out there that wouldn’t be amazing to live in. Everyone who had a childhood friendship group like the one in The Goonies become nostalgic when watching this film, and those who didn’t, wish they did! Finding a pirate map, and pursuing the route to treasure must have been on everyone’s wish list at one point in their lives, right?
Face it; with places like Middle-Earth, Hogwarts, and Narnia, this list could be endless. What’s your ideal movie world?
