Batman: Arkham City release date revealed

By Nathan Hardisty

Warner Bros. have announced that the sequel to the 2009 smash hit Batman: Arkham Asylum will be launching on October 18 in the US, October 19 in Australia, and October 21 here in Europe on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Batman: Arkham City builds upon its predecessor in delivering a more realised world set within the slums of Gotham, introducing new gadgets and intriguing elements. Villains and other bits hinted towards in the previous game will make a showing, such as Mr Freeze.

Quite frankly, 2009 was one of the greatest video game years in recent memory. Not only because of all the great titles such as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but also because of Arkham Asylum. Comic books have enjoyed a delicious transfer to the filmic world, becoming masterpieces in themselves, but it was fantastic finally having a true comic book game. It was well-paced, brilliant in its exploration of Batman history, and remains the greatest comic book game of all time.

SYNOPSIS: Batman: Arkham City is set one year after the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, and the Rogues Gallery will include, among others, The Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman and Harley Quinn. The Riddler will also return with a more complicated version of his Challenges from the first game.

Stuart O'Connor is the Managing Editor of Screenjabber, the movie review website he co-founded with Neil Davey far too many years ago. He likes all genres, as long as the film is good (although he does enjoy the occasional bad "guilty pleasure"), and drinks way too much coffee.
